Watching anime the unix way

It's that day of the week when a new episode of your favourite anime show comes out, but maybe your internet is slow or tbh, you just want to up your anime watching game. Well then this is the article for you.

My workflow

0. Find anime to watch
1. Find good torrent release of said anime on Nyaa
2. Download the torrent using Transmission
3. Transfer file to device using FileZilla (Only needed for people who use seperate devices for torrenting and watching)
4. Watch it using mpv

Pros

• Once anime is downloaded, you don't need internet access to watch it.
• Doesn't lag.
• Access to best quality video, audio and subs. look

Cons

• Whole process takes longer than watching it online, but most can be automated.

Automation

I've created adl to automate the process of downloading new episodes each week by grabbing torrent files from Nyaa and adding them to Transmission's watch directory.
